1.) QTP—QuickTest Professional

QuickTest is a graphical interface record-playback automation tool. It is able to work with any web, java or windows client application. QuickTest enables you to test standard web objects and ActiveX controls. In addition to these environments, QuickTest Professional also enables you to test Java applets and applications and multimedia objects on Applications as well as standard Windows applications, Visual Basic 6 applications and .NET framework applications.

Mercury QuickTest Professional provides the industry’s best solution for functional test and regression test automation - addressing every major software application and environment. This next-generation automated testing solution deploys the concept of Keyword-driven testing to radically simplify test creation and maintenance. Unique to QuickTest Professional’s Keyword-driven approach, test automation experts have full access to the underlying test and object properties, via an integrated scripting and debugging environment that is round-trip synchronized with the Keyword View.QuickTest Professional satisfies the needs of both technical and non-technical users. It enables you to deploy higher-quality applications faster, cheaper, and with less risk. It works hand-in-hand with Mercury Business Process Testing™ to bring non-technical subject matter experts into the quality process in a meaningful way. Plus, it empowers the entire testing team to create sophisticated test suites with minimal training. The deployment of Mercury QuickTest Professional is optimized through the use of Mercury best practices. Mercury best practices cover all aspects of deployment, including product installation and operation, organizational design, process implementation, continual process improvement and measurement of return on investment (ROI). Throughout your implementation Mercury applies these best practices to your specific situation, creating world-class procedures for you that drive long-term success.

2.) LoadRunner

LoadRunner is a testing tool that load tests the application by emulating an environment in which multiple users work concurrently. While the application is under load, it accurately measures, monitors and analyzes a system's performance and functionality.

LoadRunner prevents costly performance problems in production by detecting bottlenecks before a new system or upgrade is deployed. You can verify that new or upgraded applications will deliver intended business outcomes before go-live, preventing over-spending on hardware and infrastructure. It is the industry-standard load testing solution for predicting system behavior and performance validation, and the only integrated load testing, tuning, and diagnostics solution in the market today. With LoadRunner you can measure end-to-end performance, diagnose application and system bottlenecks, and load test applications that run in the context of remote desktop protocol (RDP) – all from a single point of control. It supports a wide range of enterprise environments, including Web Services, Ajax, J2EE, and .NET.
With LoadRunner, you can:--

a.)Obtain an accurate picture of end-to-end system performance.
b.)verify that new or upgraded applications meet specified performance requirements.
c.)Identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks during the development life cycle.

3.) Winrunner

Winrunner is an automated functional GUI testing tool that allows a user to record and play back UI interactions as test scripts. WinRunner is one of the market leaders when it comes to automated functional testing tools. When used to create automated test scripts, it uses a “GUI Map” approach, which basically means that it recognizes objects like buttons and edit fields by their unique properties. WinRunner can be used to create automated scripts for applications created using a range of technologies, including Java, Siebel, PowerBuilder, and Delphi. However, some of the add-ins that provide this support much be purchased separately. Though simple scripts may be created using WinRunner’s record-and-playback functionality, to develop any significantly complex test scripts the user will have to utilize Mercury’s Test Script Language, or TSL, which is basically a derivative of the C programming language. Therefore, if the user has previous programming experience, he or she will learn how to use WinRunner much faster than someone who does not have a programming background. WinRunner integrates with Mercury’s TestDirector offering, which is one of the market leaders in test management software. When used together, WinRunner executes automated tests and TestDirector stores the results, as well as the automated test scripts themselves. Mercury has suggested that it will add new functionality less quickly to WinRunner than it will to its QuickTest Professional offering going forward. The company cannot stop supporting WinRunner due to its large user base, but it looks like the firm will recommend QuickTest for new customers that use newer software development platforms.
