Google
just announced the beta launch of
Website
Optimizer, a new tool designed to help people
determining which version of your landing page
users like best in terms of
conversions — whether sales, sign-ups or
downloads.
By allowing
site visitors to determine what content is most useful, as
indicated by the highest conversion rate, Google claims it is
removing the guesswork and trial-and-error experiments that used
to be the norm for determining landing page optimization.
Site publishers will be provided
code to drop into their landing page, tagging layout elements
and content for tracking by the Optimizer. The tool will then
allow publishers to create multiple versions of that landing
page that are served up randomly to visitors entering the site
via AdWords promotions. As visitors interact with the different
versions of the page, publishers are given detailed reports on
visitor activity organized by version and page section.
If you're
not that technical savvy and want to have a
layout and design that works best
before experimenting with Google optimizer ,

DMOZ is now taking submissions again. Not sure how long its going to last.
Better get in there!
Every webmaster wants to get
his/her site listed on Google but the question is "Why
is a DMOZ listing so important?"
DMOZ,
also known as The Open Directory Project (ODP), is a large,
categorized directory of websites and pages, which is staffed by
volunteers and Google Directory is nothing but the downloaded
version of DMOZ, Hence,
A listing in DMOZ creates two
significant links into a website - one from DMOZ and
one from the Google directory
It was in the news that DMOZ
editor was soliciting cash payments as a means for site owners
and webmasters to get their sites reviewed and listed in the
DMOZ Directory.
I was just able to submit my
website to the DMOZ.org directory! I have been trying for over
two months and finally when I clicked on "Suggest URL" today, I
actually got a form and was able to submit my listing!!! Though
the listing is
not confirmed but
at least now :
(1) editors are
technically able to review sites and
(2) site owners can technically
submit sites.

| On Tuesday, Jan 9, 2007 , the first day of the new Congress,
Senate Commerce Committee members Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and
Olympia Snowe
re-introduced the Internet Freedom Preservation Act, which
would prevent broadband providers from "discriminating
against Internet content, applications or services, and require
them to offer stand-alone broadband service not bundled with
video or voice." The
legislation states that all content, applications and services
must be freely accessible through broadband providers. Also it
requires cable and telecom providers to offer broadband access
as a standalone service, not only bundled with voice or video.
Mr. Dorgan said “The success of the Internet has been its
openness and the ability of anyone anywhere in this country to
go on the Internet and reach the world,” . “If the big interests
who control the pipes become gatekeepers who erect tolls, it
will have a significant impact on the Internet as we know it.”
.
Google, Yahoo, eBay and
Amazon, support the legislation, against telecommunication
titans like Verizon, AT&T and large cable companies like
Comcast. In July 2006, Google warned U.S. legislators that if
broadband providers abused net neutrality principles, it would
consider anti-trust actions. Read Net neutrality principles
defined by Google in July 2006

But the proposal face
significant political impediments and no one expects that they
will be adopted quickly.
